Edward W. Strause, born in Schuylkill Haven, PA in 1935, passed away in hospice at Foxdale on May 23, 2021 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife, Esther, daughter Victoria Stahr and James Stahr, niece Eva Johnson and Nephew Lee Strause; grandchildren Rachel Stahr and Adam Brzozowski, Sarah and Richard Lefevre and Ezekiel Stahr; great grandchildren Martin and Athena Brzozowski and Barrett Lefevre, Patrick, Alyson and Michael Lefevre and Rachel Zaizar. He served in the Cold War in Germany, using the GI bill to go to college. Many in the State College area remember him as their language teacher. He was fluent in German, Russian, French and English, teaching what was in demand. Teaching was his joy for years extending to training cooks for the Army Reserves and was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts. After retiring from teaching his interests included traveling and preforming in local theater groups playing King Lear and “Big Daddy” in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
There will be a memorial service at Foxdale on July 24, 2021 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made at https://www.dementiasociety.org.
