David E. Poorman, 93, of Runville, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. David was born on June 30, 1927, in Runville, he was the only child of the late Taylor M. and Gertrude Erb Poorman. On December 4, 1945, at the Runville Church, he married Helen Mitchell Poorman, who preceded him in death on January 24, 1990. David attended the Runville, one-room School House where he was responsible to make and maintain the fire each day in the schools pot-belly stove. He also attended the Bellefonte High School. As a World War II veteran, he served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Dayton (CL-105). He was an electrician by trade and worked at the former National Gypsum Lime Company retiring from Con-Lime. David was a dedicated and life-time member of the Runville United Methodist Church where he and his wife, Helen faithfully shared with their children their love of Jesus. He served as a teacher for the Men’s Sunday School class and assisted with many of the improvements made to the church through the years. Lovingly known as “PAP” by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their friends, he was a hunting and fishing buddy, attended many Little League games and Girl’s Softball games as well as 4-H events. David is survived by his four children: Beverly A. Myers of Ramey, David L. Poorman and his wife Bonnie of Runville, Lois H. Walk and her husband Steven of Roaring Spring, and Thomas E. Poorman and his wife Janet of Runville. He is also survived by a very dear friend, Mary Crater of Bellefonte, a sister-in-law Kathryn Wagner of Bellefonte, a brother-in-law Rev. Paul Coffman of Kentucky, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Along his his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Harry R. Myers, Jr.
Family and friends will be received at the Runville United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 10 AM to 11 AM. A private funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Rev. Herb Emel officiating. Burial will be in Advent Cemetery, Boggs Twp., where military honors will be accorded. We will be following CDC recommendations, facial coverings will be required and social distancing is encouraged.
