Harold “Larry” Smith – April 28, 1941 – December 27, 2020 of State College passed away of natural causes on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Larry had been a resident at Centre Crest for several months prior to his death. He was born and raised in Pine Grove Mills and was the son of the late Harold King Smith and Pearl Emily (Bloom) Smith. On April 28, 2003, he married Bonnie L. (Confer) Smith, who survives at their home.
He was a 1959 graduate of State College Area High School. Prior to his retirement on June 30, 2003, he worked as the Service Manager at Leitzinger Imports, Inc., in State College for 27 years. He was a
long time member of the Hoot Owl hunting camp and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, antiquing and camping. He loved pets and nature and was fondly referred to as Dr. Dolittle by his family. He was an avid sports fan with a heart for his favorite teams including Penn State, the Philadelphia Eagles, Charleston Southern football and Philadelphia Phillies baseball.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his daughter, Sheri (Smith) Malmgren and husband Ross of Acworth, Georgia; a stepson, Rob Stocks and his wife Nicole of Warriors Mark, PA; and a stepdaughter, Jennifer Struble and fiance John Lathrop of Williamsburg, VA; a granddaughter, Emily Elise Malmgren, grandson Ross Christian Malmgren, and step-grandson William Daniel Stocks; a sister, Diane (Smith) Kemmerer; brother in law Andy Cruse and numerous nieces and nephews. His sister,
Janet (Smith) Cruse predeceased him on January 10, 2018.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Centre Crest Nursing Home for their kindness and care during Larry’s stay. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Larry’s memory may be given to Pets Come First, 2451General Potter Highway, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc. in Milesburg. There will be no public visitation. Online condolences may be made at www.deankwetzlerfuneralhome.com.
