Obituary for Sterling L. Smoyer

Sterling L. Smoyer
Sterling L. Smoyer, 80, of Runville, went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2017. Born November 3, 1937, in Bellefonte, Sterling was the son of the late Fount G. and Pearl E. (King) Smoyer. On August 4, 1956, he married Charlette F. Sampsell, beginning a life together where they would raise six children, and welcome into the family nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren during their 61 years together.
Sterling attended the Bellefonte School system and was employed at AtoTech, before retiring with 33 years of service. Sterling, with Charlette, had the opportunity to take many wonderful trips together visiting family. He was also very talented as a craftsman doing beautiful leather work as a hobby.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Alice McGregor (Denny) of Runville, Audrey Lingle (Fred) of Aaronsburg, Amy Krasinski (John) of Unionville and his sons, Alan (Deb) of Ridgeland, SC, Andrew (Wendy) of Milesburg, Aaron (Kim) of Windsor, CO and by one brother, David. In addition to his parents, Sterling was preceded in death by one sister, May and four brothers, Arthur, William, Elwood and Harry and one great grandchild, James Bradley Smoyer.
Sterling was a loving husband, dad, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. We the children, look back on life and realize how truly blessed we were to have him as our Dad. It has been an honor in later years to be able to do for him as he had done for us.
Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Sterling will be laid to rest in the Advent Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the wonderful helpers from Centre Crossing Hospice for all of their support and care of Sterling. Contributions may be made to Centre Crossings Hospice, 2437 Commercial Blvd., State College, PA 16801 or American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
