Obituary for Hazel Newman (Quiggle)

Hazel Q. Newman, 89, of Milesburg, died on January 8, 2018, at Elmcroft Dillsburg. She was born November 5, 1928, in Castanea. She was the daughter of the late John Daniel and Sallie Lingle Quiggle. On September 27, 1947, in Castanea, she married Donald Glenn Newman who preceded her in death on January 20, 1994. She is survived by her two children, Luther E. (Shirley) Newman, of Carlisle, and Sally M. Knapp (Jay), of Howard. Her daughter, Judy L. Monsell, preceded her in death on October 31, 2007. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Donald J. Knapp (Gretchen), of Mountain Top, Christopher L. Monsell (Jonna), of Milesburg, Michael J. Knapp (Misty), of Bellefonte, Stephanie M. MacNamara (Chad), of Bellefonte, Elizabeth Regel (Victoria Wilson), of Rochester, N.H., Allison Regel, and Eric Regel, of Bellefonte. She is also survived by her 12 great-grandchildren, Tyler J. Hughes, Ciara J. Lucas, Hunter T. Clark, Garet M. Clark, Pfc. Logan J. Knapp, Evan M. Knapp, Naomi M. Knapp, Jacob N. Knapp, Liam E. Knapp, Brody M. Regel, Ryan E. (Chelsea) MacNamara and Collin R. MacNamara; and her four great-great-grandchildren, Ava Jumper, Kendal Lucas, Celina and Luna MacNamara, all of whom were her pride and joy. In addition to her husband Don and daughter Judy, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lynn Hughes, of Carlisle; and five brothers and three sisters. Hazel was the last of her generation. She was employed for 30 years (retiring July 3, 1987) by the U.S. Postal Service in Milesburg, the last seven years as Postmaster, and over the years, she filled in at a number of other local post office. In her earlier years, she also was employed at the Woolrich Woolen Mills in the sales department in Woolrich, and at Piper Aircraft Corporation in Lock Haven, in the Public Relations and Sales Department. She belonged to the following organizations: Charter Member of the Milesburg American Legion Auxiliary, Post #893, Charter Member of the Centre Cedarettes Tall Cedars of Lebanon #129, Centre Chapter No. 207 Order of Eastern Star, Milesburg-Boggs Township Senior Citizens, Former Milesburg Women's Club and past President, A member of the Board of the Trcziyulny Cemetery Association, a former member of the Citizen's Hook and Ladder Co. #9 Auxiliary. She was a long-time member of the Milesburg Baptist Church and a Deacon Emeritus. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. - Noon at The Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Ronald E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Trcziyulny Cemetery, Boggs Township, Centre County.
