Condolence From: don spackman
Condolence: hi folks; so sorry to hear of allen's passing. he was a great guy.he was the neighbor of my uncle charles (dunk) spackman, and allen and i often worked together on dunks farm as kids and teenagers. such were quite eventful and full of jokes and pranks.the best days were when all the neighbors and family cousins would gather at dunks for a day or 2 to harvest wheat, oats, or to butcher pigs. just imagine 10 or 12 teenage boys working together all day long. we did work hard, and we learned what hard work meant. perhaps that is why allen drove truck so well for what seemed a lifetime. we would often pass while going in opposite directions in early morning. we always had time to wave at one another.
additionally allen and i were the same age born in 1944. we attended bald eagle school starting in 7th grade in 1956. i believe allen was at sugar grove school prior to that while i was at port matilda. i lived in worth twp at that time on my dads , john spackmans, farm. allen may have helped there from time to time. i have done my best to preserve that farm. its easy to recognize with the barns and houses with the red roofs at the skytop intersection on route 220.
allen and i graduated together in 1962. our yearbook has his picture and a brief description including "a very friendly guy...hunts coon". ah yes he was an outdoorsman. i really miss those days on the farm. i still work hard on the farm after 31 years as an engineer at the state college hospital. i grow organic vegetables and we raise sheep for the grandchildren.
fear not for allen; he's probably on a coon hunt already. best wishes, don spackman
